First Quarter Moon Antics

When The Moon Is In The Seventh House – Or Wherever…first quarter moon

We don’t usually think of the Moon as a Trickster – that’s the purview of Mercury.
However, a first-quarter Moon has a few tricks up it’s sleeve.

In an article by the always informative and value-driven Astrograph authors, they portray the first-quarter Moon in the following manner:

Tuesday’s First Quarter Moon is that phase in the lunar cycle when the rubber meets the road – the time when our concrete plans from the New Moon one week prior, and our cherished ideals as well, must measure up to the standards of practicality set for us by a world seemingly indifferent to our original level of enthusiasm.

No astrological configuration exists in a vacuum, so it is prudent to consider other dominant dynamics that are making their presence known and modifying the overall astrological scheme and subsequent influences.

These very issues have become much more poignant lately, with Saturn, and Jupiter also, so prominent in the monthly configurations. In the current skies, restrictive Saturn and enthusiastic Jupiter remain within a degree of a quincunx aspect to each other, as Saturn trines Chiron, the Wounded Healer, while Jupiter squares it. There is plenty of attitude in these three planetary archetypes in collision, representing the pain of recognizing where indeed we cannot get what we want coupled with a strong sense of the ideal that we would like to believe is somehow still possible; and this is true on either a personal or a global level.

Bringing Astrology Down To Earth

While I would never attempt to “reinterpret” this portrayal, I do believe it requires a little grounding for the sake of simplifying an otherwise involved pattern.

Simply put, be ready to encounter some resistance even in the face of good intentions and a seemingly workable plan. You most likely do not have all the information you require to make the best and highest decisions for the current circumstances. Be ready to make some adjustments and don’t take it personally – it’s a growth phase. Or, as my Astrology teacher used to say, “It’s an AFGO – Another F___ing Growth Opportunity!” Go with IT… and with an open mind.

And then… if that isn’t enough:

…the Spring Equinox of Wednesday, March 20th, is a dramatic one, with this same configuration of outer planet energies and several other strong aspects to take into consideration, as head-strong Mars conjuncts impulsive Uranus in Aries even more closely. We might need to be aware that everyone around us is more impetuous than usual, ourselves included, with accidents and outbursts a distinct possibility. At the time of Tuesday’s Quarter Moon this intense aspect is offset by the Sun with Venus in sensitive and subtle Pisces. In yet another strong symbol of sensitivity, Mercury, fresh out of its retrograde motion, remains in conjunction with dreamy Neptune. It’s a relief in some ways that Mercury has returned to a more outer-directed mode, although since it does not entirely escape its retrograde shadow until April 6th, the Mercury Retrograde period remains in transition for these next few weeks.

I believe the Spring Equinox is when we are given cosmic permission to fly. Just make sure you’re in a plane or some kind of apparatus that makes flying possible. No grandeur or euphoria, which is so plentiful and there for the taking. Balance is critical while we are acclimating to the infusion of Aries influence and the “opening” of the Astrological year. Do some meditation, Tai-Chi or yoga before moving into your days.

Remember To Partner With Your Planets

Oh, and just a few additional Astrological FYI’s before you charge out and meet your worlds:

The Mars-Uranus conjunction becomes more pronounced over these next few days, perfecting on Friday, March 22nd. We must therefore strive especially hard to find the high road in our dealings with others, going against the grain of cosmic influence by trying to be patient and countering the onslaught of impulsive energy. We do well to beware of untoward spontaneous actions during this week that could lead to accidents, or of letting our mouths get ahead of our hearts, remembering that the word that is once spoken cannot be taken back. The recommendation is that rather than reacting we all take a deep breath and count to ten – or at least five – before responding.

And, a final reminder:

With these powerful planetary alignments, amidst the tension of the quarter moon, interpersonal relationship is very much on our minds and in our hearts. We also have the strong urge to be ourselves, at all costs, and this is vitally important as well. We win only by paying careful attention to these joint urges. As the Sun leaves the last degree of Pisces he seeks to remind us that two hearts are better than one; and it goes much better if the two are each whole.

International Astrology Day 2013

The San Francisco chapter of the National Council for Geocosmic Research, Inc. (NCGR), is working with the San Francisco Astrological Society and the Association For Astrological Networking (AFAN) to put on International Astrology Day 2013 – a one-day conference on March 16th – with a March 17th Post-Conference workshop headed up by renowned and respected astrologer, Lynn Bell.

From the NCGR website:

NCGR Astrology Day

International Astrology Day (IAD) is an annual observance/holiday celebrated by astrologers and astrology enthusiasts. It is held on the spring equinox, the day the Sun enters Aries, which is the first sign of the Tropical Zodiac, and has long been considered the astrological new year. In observance of IAD the Association For Astrological Networking (AFAN) co-ordinates astrological lectures and events around the world. A portion of the proceeds from the IAD – San Francisco event will be donated to AFAN.

In this astrologer’s opinion, it should be one heckuva conference!

  • The Moon and Mars are in Aries (although the Moon is moving into Taurus imminently).
  • The moon is Void of Course.
  • We are still in Mercury Retrograde.

Sounds like an Astrological Mardis Gras!

This being said, the Madame’ of Ceremonies, Lynn Bell, should be able to corral the conference-goers at the Post-Conference workshop, and mesmerize them with her astrological acumen.

Here’s a bit about Bell from the NCGR website:Lynn Bell

Lynn Bell is a Paris-based astrologer whose work spans multiple cultures as a speaker, teacher, author and consultant in astrology. She has been a featured presenter at all the major astrology conferences in the world, and is on the faculty of the Centre for Psychological Astrology in London. Mercury Retrograde Astrology Reading Special

Cover of "Mercury Retrograde"

Cover of Mercury Retrograde

I am always inspired by Mercury Retrograde. I also like going over speed bumps in my car.

Call me crazy (my wife does) but there is a certain solace and subsequent empowerment available when the “norm” is interrupted. The problem is, most folks don’t like their worlds being rocked – even if it is in their best interest. And this is where Mercury Retrograde comes in.

Mercury Retrograde Offers Opportunity

Mercury Retrograde offers the opportunity (okay, it pretty much forces it on us) to reflect and review our current place on our life path. This is not a time to continue barreling down the road of Life at Breakneck speed because, well… you’ll break your neck! Or something… worse? But seriously, there is much work to be done that can only be accomplished if we are ultra-attentive to the details of our lives and there is a certain vividness associated with the times when Mercury goes retrograde.

So, the key is to look around and take each step thoughtfully and with proper planning. And most importantly, wrap up projects and loose ends that have been swept under the rug “for later.” Because guess what? “Later” is now!

Okay, before I continue, check out this post on and then come back and I’ll tell you all about my idea to celebrate Mercury Retrograde – because you will benefit from it.

Welcome back! Pretty cool video, huh? Well, if they can celebrate Mercury Retrograde with music, then I can celebrate it with what I do best – Astrology Readings!

I have been providing Karmic Natal Astrology readings in my local area of Redmond, WA for over ten years. I am, at long last,  making my services available to you, my online community. And, because we are now embroiled in the midst of Mercury Retrograde, I am offering a temporary discount on my services.

Mercury Retrograde Brings Unexpected Benefits

My standard price for a one-hour Karmic Natal Astrology reading is $150.00. I provide an mp3 recording and transcript of the session emailed to you. And for first-time clients, I also include a current-year Solar Return reading – a $75.00 value!

However, because we are whirling and swirling in Mercury Retrograde, I am offering this already value-added service for only $99.00!

This is a one-time offer for the next ten days, or until March 18th – whichever comes first. (That was a Mercury Retrograde joke.)

All you need to do is fill out the form on our Contact page and include the following information:

  2. Time of Birth – for example 04:13pm
  3. Place of Birth – for example Denver, CO –  if International; state/district/province, Country

If any of this information is unknown, an accurate reading is virtually impossible. However, an intuitive exploration can be made and oftentimes reveals energy patterns that are expressing through the individual.

Mercury Retrograde Astrology Reading Special

During a reading, I look at the past lives and the current life as it relates to the Soul-Ego relationship. I explore the lessons to be learned and the talents, skills and abilities available to address the growth and accomplish the purpose in this lifetime. I also look at areas where there are challenges and where Karma needs to be resolved. This is the role of the Natal Karmic astrology chart.

The Solar Return chart is a “birth chart for one year.” It reveals the energies and influences that are most prevalent and how to best navigate them to accomplish the goals and move through the Soul’s evolutionary process during this period.

My proprietary methodology for reading the Solar Return chart provides a framework and action plan for the year. It is very powerful and can be utilized for establishing an empowered perspective and outlook.

NOTE: All chart readings are provided by authentic astrologers using their expertise and intuition to arrive at an interpretation of your charts. This results in a synergy that addresses you and your specific situation. We do not use a cook-book, cookie-cutter approach. The only way to provide you with what you will benefit from, is an individualized reading.

As always, if you have any questions, please email me and I look forward to meeting you!

Astrology 101: How To Spot Each Sign … In “Portlandia”

In Portland, Oregon there is an eclectic group of uniques, known to live in a parallel universe called Portlandia. They have some of the same rules as the rest of us, but are most definitely differentiated from the status quo. They do believe in Astrology, however… and here is a glimpse into their world and how they identify, and define themselves astrologically.

Astrology Is a Cross-Culture Art Science And Art Form

Winona Dimeo-Ediger & Katelyn Kollinzas of have completed some very risky (rhymes with Frisky) astrological reconnaissance, and here is what they are reporting:

Whether you live in Portland or have seen a few “Portlandia” sketches, you know this city marches to the beat of its own naked bongo drummer. As two lifelong Portlanders, we thought it would be fun to imagine where all the astrological signs fit into the culture of “Portlandia.” Is your sign tasting gourmet coffees or playing the didgeridoo or competing on an anarchist bocce ball team? Read on to find out!

Aries (March 21st-April 19th): Riding around on a unicycle scolding people on the street for putting compostable material in the regular recycling bin.

Taurus (April 20th-May 20th): Camping out in the luxury bedding section of Pottery Barn as part of the Occupy protest.

Gemini (May 21st-June 20th): Running an illegal zine exchange out of a converted garden shed under the Burnside Bridge.

Cancer (June 21st-July 22nd): Working as a traveling midwife who performs silent waterbirths in ponds, rivers, and mud puddles.

Leo (July 23rd-August 22nd): Fronting a 12-person sex-positive didgeridoo performance group.

Virgo (August 23rd-September 22nd): At a gourmet, organic, fair trade, free-range coffee-tasting, smugly critiquing the subtle differences between roasts.

Libra (September 23rd-October 22nd): Working as a naturopathic, homeopathic herbalist who specializes in massage therapy for gluten intolerance.

Scorpio (October 23rd-November 21st): Wearing a velvet-hooded cloak and performing past life regression services for local trees.

Sagittarius (November 22nd-December 21st): Captain of Portland’s most tattooed underground, anarchist bocce-ball-on-bikes team.

Aquarius (January 20th-Feuary 18th): Standing outside of a local food co-op collecting signatures to get universal healthcare for dogs.

Pisces (Feuary 19th-March 20th): Doing a specialized blend of yoga/tai chi in a crowded park and moaning about blocked chakras.

From Astrology To… ?

You can learn even more about Portlandia by soaking up the culture visually with the video series on DVD.

So, the next time you find yourself in the Portland area, take a little closer look at the inhabitants of this seemingly “normal” metropolis and see if you can tell who is a Portlander and who is from Portlandia.

Investors Turn To Astrology To Predict Financial Markets Behaviour

Investor Astrology

Money Makes The… Planets Go ‘Round

In an article that will surely raise a few eyebrows and get even more chagrin from “serious” investors, Cecilia Jamasmie of is going out on a limb by making reference to a new breed of investor. She begins her article with the following observation:

In what will surely sound bizarre to many, a new generation of investors is looking at the stars when it comes to making trading and investment decisions, in particular when trying to predict the price behavior for precious metals.

She goes on to substantiate her assertion by bringing in an Astrology Investing heavyweight – Malcolm Bucholtz:

“The buying and selling that occurs [in the financial markets] is a reflection of two emotions, fear and hope, and this buying and selling exhibits patterns,” writes Malcolm Bucholtz, analyst who trades the financial markets using technical charts, esoteric mathematics and astrology.

According to Bucholtz, a business expert, ProEdgeWire columnist and author of “The Bull, the Bear and the Planets,” the markets exhibit patterns that are as easy to track as the planets’ paths.
To illustrate his point he analyzed the correlation between gold prices and Mercury’s trajectory around the Sun during November 2012, when the planet was retrograde.

There’s Nothing New Under The Cosmos

While this is not a new phenomenon – Ray Merriman has been trading the financial markets for decades with the assistance of planetary influences – it is worth noting that there is an ongoing movement in the investing world that is influenced by more than technical and fundamental data points

“Notice how Mercury kept gold traders on the edge of their seats with some fascinating price volatility during its March retrograde event,” he writes about the following charts (click to enlarge):

Mercury Retrograde Rocks The Financial Markets

Mercury is currently retrograde.
It started on Feb. 23 and it will last until March 16. It will happen again this year from June 26 to July19 and from Oct.21 to Nov.9.

Aquarius Confusion

Aquarius, you are the water-bearer, or water-carrier (choose your description), but – and this is important Aquarius – you are an AIR sign!

And so, the stage is set. This situation, and our interpretation of it, makes for interesting, yet diverse discourse. In other words, we can speculate all day and night, and never arrive decidedly at a definitive description of what, or who, Aquarius really is! Ask any Aquarius you know, “How would you describe yourself?” The answer to this question will always depend upon the condition of the ego and the evolutionary stage of the soul. However, an almost universal response will be a smile and a simultaneous short laugh that says, “Wouldn’t YOU like to know?!”

This is not meant to be disrespectful or off-putting, but only to create a comfortable space around Aquarius and send a message of unattachment. Their identity is their power – like all signs – however, what you see is all you get. Unless they decide otherwise. This is how they maintain a consistent, conscious presence in the world and maintain personal control of their energy and actions. Aquarius chooses to be virtually inaccessible, because there is little perceived value in being accessible. Merging with others dilutes their process and distracts from self-discovery, which is their prime directive.

Aquarius – Best Case Scenario

But, there is an exception to the rule: Aquarius likes to “hang out” with Aquarius. There’s no baggage, only awareness of one another’s space. This is the safe approach to creating and understanding boundaries. There is also an objective learning curve, which again, is safe. However, this leaves a lot undiscovered, compared to what is available in all situations. Ironically, this is satisfying and works quite well for Aquarius. They learn and experience what they want – to the degree they want – and can still operate within the context of their own world.

There is no judgement here, because it’s simply what works. They can access their emotions if they choose, but they are not required to do so. While this can frustrate others, well… that is their problem! Get over it! Aquarius is not here to be sure you have what you want or think you need from them. As such, they rarely make emotional promises. But when they do, it’s forever – as long as you understand their definition of forever.

Aquarius – Worst Case Scenario

Sometimes Aquarius “doesn’t get it.” They seem aloof and air-headed. This is merely their approach to unattachment, which can be inconsiderate and downright rude if assertively applied in their world. In most cases, it will seem as if they are operating outside of themselves and the environment – much like an automaton. Not robotic, just independent and separate from the communal goings-on.

The most abrupt Aquarius model is the stereotypical rebel. Tattoos, piercings, ill-fitting or intentionally damaged, or distressed, clothing. Needing to make a statement, but that statement is reminding the world how different and unique Aquarius is, and don’t you dare try to make them conform – to anything! Interestingly, this brings an unwanted influence into the picture. The more assertively – and sometimes aggressively – Aquarius attempts to dissuade others from affecting them and their space, the more energy is attracted to them. Go figure!

Aquarius – Solving The Mystery

So, how do we relate to those born under the sign of Aquarius? As water-bearers, they carry their emotions with them at all times. As such, they can be compared – albeit loosely – to Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. WAIT! I’m not saying they are LIKE the water signs, I’m saying they have the capacity to access their emotions because their emotions are always within their grasp. Whether they choose to engage is another story.

Aquarius is much more comfortable keeping people at a distance. But not too far. They still have a point to make and an impression to make – after all, the Aquarius polarity is Leo! And while Aquarius scoffs at Leo, and rolls their eyes as Leo works fervently to garner ALL the attention, secretly they are reminded of how lonely their world feels. Aha! They’ve inadvertently accessed their “water.”
